Doha: Thousands of worshipers gathered yesterday to offer Eid Al Fitr at the Education City Stadium which was built for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The prayer was hosted by the Education City Mosque known as Minaretein Center; and it was the first time that Eid prayers were held at the stadium.
The venue once hosted eight FIFA World Cup matches turned out to be one of the largest prayer venues among the 590 mosques and other locations allocated for Eid Al Fitr.
Speaking to The Peninsula, some of the worshipers said that they choose the venue due to its significance and convenience.
“Eid is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and celebrate our blessings; it gives us a good feel to gather at the Education City Stadium once again, we liked the place during the World Cup and it’s easy to access the place,” said Nasim, who had come to perform prayers with his family, adding that they are amazed to see such large number of people.
However for some worshipers it was their first time to visit the Education City Stadium. “I feel blessed and excited to join the Eid prayer with such a big crowed and this amazing stadium. This is my first time to be here and altogether a great experience,” said Mawaza Nilam, a long time Doha resident to visit the Education City and experience its facilities for the first time. She also said that they arrived parking and transport within the Education City were well organised.
Education City Tram was in operation for the visitors yesterday and parking was available at three locations at the West Car Park, Al Shaqab and at Oxygen Park.
Following the prayer, the Minaretein Center also be hosted an Eid Festival with activities especially designed for children including face painting and games; also some food vendors were available for the visitors to the Education City Stadium.
