Tajikistan’s transport minister worries about public transportation conduct

Tajik Minister of Transport Azim Ibrokhim expressed concern about the behavior of drivers and passengers of public transport, the press service of the transport department reports. He noted the increasing cases of mistreatment of passengers by drivers, but stressed that often such behavior is provoked by the passengers themselves.

At a working meeting with the participation of heads of passenger transportation companies, the minister instructed to strengthen explanatory work among public transport drivers.

He noted that “high-quality work of public transport is achievable only in close cooperation between passenger transportation companies and relevant government agencies, organizations and enterprises.”

The behavior of public transport drivers in Tajikistan, especially in the capital, is a constant subject of dissatisfaction among passengers.

Passengers almost daily complain about the level and quality of public transport, bad behavior of drivers and low level of service. The authorities regularly announce the arrest and punishment of “rude” drivers, but the situation does not change fundamentally.

In one of the latest cases, both the driver and the passenger were punished. On March 17, a video appeared on social networks, which reflected a verbal conflict between the driver and a young female passenger – both insulted each other with foul language.

The video caused a backlash from citizens who asked the authorities to take action against both for insulting each other. As a result, due to a violation of public order, both the driver and the passenger were fined 476 somoni each.

Last summer, the Unified Center for Regulation and Electronic Control of Buses and Trolleybuses was launched in Dushanbe.

It was noted that the launch of the Center, first of all, is aimed at improving the quality of transport services and timely control of the activities of drivers of passenger transport in the capital.

However, judging by the minister’s concern, the Center needs to intensify its work to eliminate existing problems.

According to the Agency on Statistics, in the first two months of this year, 140 million passengers were transported by all types of passenger transport in the republic. This is a 4.3% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
