Russia exports more sawn wood to Tajikistan

Russian enterprises supplied 67,000 cubic meters of softwood and hardwood lumber to Tajikistan in two months of this year, Roslesinforg reports . This is a 40% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

The report says that Tajikistan, along with Hong Kong, is in third place in the supply of lumber from Russia.

” According to the first results of the year, China has traditionally remained the main sales market for Russian enterprises. Its share in the first two months of 2023 amounted to 63% of all exports of sawn softwood and hardwood. In second place is the Uzbekistan market, it accounted for 10.1% or 260,000 cubic meters. The volume of deliveries in this direction correspond to the level of last year,” the report says.

In general, in January-February 2023, sawn timber exports from Russia amounted to 2.6 million cubic meters, which is a quarter lower than the same period last year.

Lumber – products made of wood of established dimensions and quality, having at least two plane-parallel layers. Such materials are obtained as a result of the longitudinal division of round timber (logs), as well as the longitudinal and transverse division of the resulting parts.

Last autumn, it was reported that since September 2022, Russian timber merchants have lost the opportunity to send sawn timber for export to the countries of Central Asia.

The problem arose because of the decree of the Russian government “On the determination of checkpoints across the state border for certain types of goods”, including lumber (boards, timber, etc.).

In connection with the situation around the export of timber to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, the Association of Tomsk Timber Manufacturers and Timber Exporters of the Russian Federation appealed to the authorities.

The appeal proposed the adoption of urgent measures to exclude from the list, in particular, timber prohibited for export from the territory of the Russian Federation by road and rail to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and other countries.

According to the statistics department of Tajikistan, the republic imported wood and wood products in the amount of $33.1 million in the first two months of this year, which is 1% less than in the same period of 2022. The main supplier of such products to Tajikistan is Russia.
